Energy People

My mom wants to know if anyone has heard of the Bloom Box? She saw it on 60 minutes:

Sam also wanted everyone to know about these ideas:

  1. I like the fuel cells. They convert natural gas to electricity more efficiently than a power plant. Usually they also produce heat, so you can heat your water and your space while making electricity. I'd really like it if they ran on wood gas.

I like the aquaponics too, but they don't say how much energy it takes. Probably not too much though. But I think I prefer a pond for the fish plus dirt. But these systems seem promising to me.

  2. I'm almost afraid to ask... but what is "wood gas"?

  3. When you heat wood it gives off flammable gases. If there's oxygen and heat, they will burn. If the wood is inside a container without oxygen, but with holes for the gas to escape, you can capture or burn the gases, and leave charcoal behind.
